How quickly will I hear back after reaching out?
New client inquiries are responded to within 24 business hours.
Do both partners need to come to the first session?

WHAT TO EXPECTStructured, but shaped around you.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a 50-minute intake. Katya will ask about the concerns you want to address in therapy and gather relevant background. The goal is to understand your situation clearly before any ongoing work begins — it's a conversation, not an evaluation you can pass or fail.
How long does the initial assessment take?
The evaluation period typically lasts 1 to 3 sessions. For couples, this includes an individual session with each partner after the first joint intake, to allow for more complete and private assessment before the couples work begins.
How long does therapy take overall?
There's no fixed timeline — it depends entirely on what you're working through and the goals you set together. Katya periodically reviews progress with you throughout the process and will raise the conversation about ending therapy when it feels appropriate. Most ending processes include 1 to 3 final sessions to consolidate the work and plan next steps.
SCHEDULING & ATTENDANCEConsistent sessions, clear policies.
How often will we meet?
Sessions are weekly, especially at the start of therapy. As you work toward your goals and where Katya's schedule allows, you may move to bi-weekly appointments.
What is the cancellation policy?
One missed session is waived per calendar year. All other cancellations must be rescheduled within the week before, the week of, or the week after your absence. If you cancel without rescheduling at least 48 hours in advance, you will be charged the full session fee.
BETWEEN SESSIONSSupport between appointments.
Can I reach Katya between sessions if I need to?
Yes — by email or phone. Katya is not always immediately available and will not answer the phone during sessions. Please leave a message and she will make every effort to respond within 24 business hours.
TELEHEALTHSessions from wherever you are.
How does telehealth work?
All sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Before each appointment you'll receive a link by email — click it and it takes you directly to Katya's virtual waiting room. No downloads required. Sessions work on any device with a camera and a stable internet connection.
Where do I need to be located for telehealth sessions?
You must be physically located in Washington State at the time of each session. Katya is licensed in Washington State and can see clients anywhere in the state via telehealth — including the Greater Seattle area, Whidbey Island, and beyond.
Are in-person sessions available?
Yes — in-person sessions are available at Katya's office on Whidbey Island. Contact her to discuss availability.
ENDING THERAPYA thoughtful close to the work.
How will I know when therapy is done?
Katya will periodically check in throughout the process to assess whether therapy is helping and whether you're moving toward your goals. When it feels like the right time, she will suggest beginning a closing process — usually 1 to 3 final sessions to review your progress, consolidate what you've learned, and identify resources and next steps for life after therapy.
