Intimacy shouldn't feel like something you avoid.
SEX THERAPY FOR COUPLES & INIVIDUALS ยท ATTUNE THERAPY GROUP ยท WASHINGTON STATEFor many couples, sex and intimacy quietly become a source of tension, distance, or silence โ not because they stopped caring, but because they never had a safe place to talk about it honestly.
WHAT BRINGS COUPLES & INDIVIDUALS HEREMost couples and individuals don't talk about this with anyone. Not friends, not family โ sometimes not even each other. There's too much shame wrapped up in it, or too much history, or too much fear of making things worse by saying the wrong thing.
So instead, it goes unspoken. Intimacy gets avoided. Distance grows. And partners are left feeling alone in something they're both experiencing.
โSex therapy isn't about fixing something broken. It's about creating a space where honesty becomes possible โ maybe for the first time.โ
At Attune Therapy Group, Katya Halligan works with couples & individuals to open conversations that have felt too difficult, too tender, or too loaded to have on their own. The goal isn't a perfect sex life โ it's a real one, built on genuine communication, mutual understanding, and trust.
WHAT SEX THERAPY INVOLVESWhatever you're navigating, you don't have to figure it out alone.
Sex therapy at Attune is for any couple where intimacy has become a source of tension, avoidance, confusion, or pain. These are the challenges that come up most often.
-
One partner wants more intimacy than the other. It sounds simple, but it rarely is. Over time, the gap becomes a source of rejection, guilt, pressure, and resentment on both sides. Therapy helps couples understand what's driving the difference and find ground that works for both of them.
-
It didn't happen all at once. Gradually, physical closeness became less frequent, then rare, then something neither of you mentions anymore. The longer it goes on, the harder it feels to bring up. Therapy creates the opening to talk about it without blame or pressure.
-
For many people, sexuality carries a weight of shame โ from past experiences, cultural messages, or simply never having had a safe space to explore it. Therapy helps you understand where that shame comes from and begin to separate it from who you are and what you want.
-
Pain during sex, difficulty with arousal or orgasm, vaginismus, erectile dysfunction โ these are medical and psychological experiences that are far more common than most people realize, and far more treatable. Therapy addresses both the physical reality and the emotional weight that comes with it.
-
Wanting different things in bed โ different frequency, different kinds of intimacy, different levels of openness โ doesn't mean you're incompatible. It means you need a way to talk about it. Therapy gives you the tools and the safety to have that conversation.
-
Infidelity, a period of illness, pregnancy loss, or significant life disruption can profoundly affect a couple's sexual relationship. Rebuilding takes more than time โ it takes intentional work, guided conversation, and a space where both partners feel safe enough to be vulnerable again.
-
Anxiety about performance โ whether it's your own or your awareness of your partner's โ can make intimacy feel high-stakes rather than connective. Therapy helps reduce the pressure, rebuild confidence, and return sex to something that feels good rather than something that feels like a test.
WHAT SEX THERAPY ACTUALLY ISTalking, not performing.
Sex therapy is talk therapy. Sessions take place fully clothed, in a private office or via telehealth. There is no physical component to the sessions themselves.
What happens in session is honest, guided conversation โ about your history, your desires, your patterns, your fears, and your relationship. Between sessions, Katya may suggest specific exercises or practices to try at home, tailored to where you are in the work. These are always collaborative, always optional, and always explained clearly before you try them.
Many couples are surprised by how much shifts simply from having a skilled, compassionate guide help them say what they've never been able to say to each other.
WHAT TO EXPECTWithout pressure, at your pace.
The work is shaped around where you are โ not a fixed curriculum. Here is what the arc typically looks like.
Your first session
Both partners share their experience โ what's been happening, what they've tried, what they're hoping for. There's no pressure to have it all figured out. The first session is about being heard and beginning to understand each other's perspective in a guided, safe space.
01
Ongoing sessions
Sessions combine honest conversation with practical guidance. Katya may introduce frameworks for understanding desire and intimacy, suggest exercises to try between sessions, or help you work through a specific conversation you haven't been able to have on your own. The pace is always yours.
02
The goal
Not a perfect sex life. A connected one โ where both partners feel safe, seen, and able to express what they need. Where intimacy is something you move toward rather than away from.

TESTIMONIALSโI came to Katya wanting to better understand my own sexuality, but I was carrying a lot of shame from difficult experiences in my past. I never really felt safe exploring that part of myself, especially with a partner. Therapy gave me a place to work through those experiences and figure out what I actually want, rather than what I thought I was supposed to want.โ
โ Individual, Seattle
โWe had gotten into such a difficult pattern around sex. One of us wanted it more, the other felt pressured. Katya helped us get out of that cycle and actually understand what was happening between us. Weโre communicating so much better now and can focus on figuring out what works for both of us.โ
