MARRIAGE & COUPLES THERAPY · ATTUNE THERAPY GROUP · WASHINGTON STATEYou love each other.
So why does it feel this hard?
You didn't get here because you stopped caring. You got here because you care deeply — and something keeps getting in the way.
WHAT BROUGHT YOU HEREMaybe it's the same argument on a loop, different words every time but the same wall at the end. Maybe one of you has shut down and the other doesn't know how to reach them anymore. Maybe trust was broken and you're not sure whether it can come back.
Or maybe nothing dramatic happened at all — you just look up one day and realize you've become roommates, co-parents, two people going through the motions of a life you built together.
“Whatever brought you here, the fact that you're looking is something. It means you haven't given up.”
Marriage counseling and couples therapy are not just for relationships in crisis. Many couples who come to Attune Therapy Group are high-functioning in every other area of their lives — they just keep running into the same wall with each other, and they're tired of it.
WHAT COUPLES BRING TO THERAPYThere's no threshold you have to cross before this is worth it.
Couples come to Attune navigating all kinds of challenges — some long-standing, some recent, some they can name clearly and some they can't quite articulate yet. Here is what comes up most often.
-
You say one thing, they hear another. Conversations escalate before you even know what happened. Or you've stopped having certain conversations altogether because it doesn't feel safe to start them.
-
You're present in the same space but somewhere far apart. The closeness you used to have feels like a memory you can't quite get back to.
-
Whether it's infidelity, a pattern of dishonesty, or a rupture that shook the foundation — trust can be rebuilt. It takes time, the right guidance, and both people willing to do the work.
-
Physical and emotional intimacy are connected in ways that aren't always obvious. When one suffers, the other often follows. Therapy creates room to talk about both honestly and without shame.
-
New baby. Career upheaval. Illness. Loss. Parenting disagreements. These aren't just external stressors — they're moments that reveal and reshape a relationship. Having support through them matters.
-
Old wounds that never fully healed. Disappointments that accumulated into something heavier. Anger that shows up sideways, in moments that seem unrelated to what actually hurt.
-
Sometimes couples come to therapy to find a path forward together. Sometimes they come to make sure they've done everything they can before making a life-changing decision. Both are valid reasons to be here.
WHAT TO EXPECTStructured, but human.
Every couple is different, and sessions are shaped around where you are. But here is what the arc of the work typically looks like.
Your first session
Getting oriented — understanding what's been happening, what each of you needs, and what you want this work to accomplish. It's not a test. There's no right or wrong way to show up.
01
Ongoing sessions
Some sessions focus on communication tools and practical skills. Others go deeper — into history, patterns, attachment, and what's actually driving the cycle you're stuck in. Most couples meet weekly, especially early in the process.
02
The goal
Not a perfect relationship — a real one. Where both of you feel seen, where conflict doesn't have to be destructive, and where you know how to find each other again when you drift.

TESTIMONIALS “We came to couples therapy early in our relationship because we wanted to build something strong before problems became bigger problems. Schema therapy especially helped us recognize the patterns and old wounds we each bring into conflict. We were able to understand our own contributions instead of just blaming each other. We’re learning to fight better, respond with more compassion, and really understand each other.”
— Dating Couple, Kirkland
“We started out strong, but somewhere along the way, we stopped feeling like a team. We were functioning, parenting, and getting everything done, but we weren't really connected. Couples therapy with Katya gave us a place to slow down, understand each other again, and start creating new patterns together.”
— Married Couple, Port Townsend
